Valor Launchpad Program
Philosophy & Mission
The Launchpad Program equips Valor Christian School graduates with the skills and understanding needed to transition confidently into the next stage of life—whether that includes further education, entering the workforce, or starting a family.
This course focuses on developing thoughtful college and career decision-making through exploration, goal setting, and effective deadline management. Students will participate in workshops, hands-on activities, and mentorship opportunities with local academic and industry professionals. Off-campus internships may also be available as an extension of the course.
Through individualized guidance and clear benchmarks, students will create an initial post-high school roadmap, including writing a personal statement that articulates a Biblical understanding of calling and purpose. They will be encouraged to research opportunities, anticipate challenges, and engage the support of parents, mentors, and community resources as they pursue their goals.
Expected Student Responsibilities
Write a personal statement on a Biblical view of Calling/Purpose
Draft a 1-2 year post-high school plan
Research deadlines and develop any necessary application or qualification dates.
Review costs and create a budget for year one following high school, including searching out available funding opportunities.
Prepare a resume
Practice interview skills
Research post-high-school opportunities
Interview individuals who are working in a similar vocational field
Attend a college fair
Apply for scholarships and other student aid
Complete the application process for colleges and universities of interest
Complete entrance exams (SAT, ACT, or CLT)
Review housing options
Organize a campus visit or meetings with college advisors
Attend a career fair
Complete mock or real interviews
Develop a personal budget
Format
The Launchpad Curriculum and Outcomes can be tailored to better meet the needs of three post-high-school ‘tracks’.
Option 1 - University, College, or Seminary
Option 2 - Technical/Trade School or Christian Discipleship Program
Option 3 - Transition to Vocation
Launch Pad will be a 2-credit class that meets on Tuesdays during 6th period (55 minutes per week). Students will be expected to use the additional 165 minutes per week to complete assigned readings and tasks before each meeting. Students will need to demonstrate a high level of responsibility to meet deadlines for assignments and readings.
Students enrolled in Launch Pad with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher may request permission to participate in internships or work-related activities during the 6th and/or 7th period. Students who take this option may earn 2 credits and will need to submit a monthly Work Experience Log and quarterly reviews from their supervisor and manager (and these students would be full-time Valor students and eligible to graduate with a diploma).
